Here's the link to the Rolling Stones article we discussed briefly in class — Jill Abramson is being interviewed by one of the people whose work she's accused of plagiarizing. Needless to say it gets pretty HEATED!

My favorite part:
Right, but I’m still trying to wrap my head around—
"OK, I think that I have really explained it. Do you have other things? Because I have a three-hour class to teach at 3 o’clock."

ReplyDeleteI had read a different article about Jill Abramson and the whole scandal now surrounding her book when it broke but the Rolling Stone article is much more entertaining!
Weirdly enough, Dan Mallory didn't surprise me much but this news really did. As Jake Malooley states, I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. How in the world does someone in Abramson's position just "not notice" they've plagiarized other people's work and how is she going to continue to deny that she has or that the plagiarism was an accident! I think it would be crazy to be a student in her class right now, with Merchants of Truth on the syllabus and Abramson as their professor in the news using the class as an excuse to not answer questions that as a student you would probably also want the answers to as well - I'd like answers, I think Jake certainly does, and this interview just did not provide them nor do I think Abramson plans to which is just an odd stance for someone who is the former executive editor of the New York Times to take. As Jake states in the opening of the article, there were a lot of people who respected her or admired her and I think that just makes this whole thing way more upsetting than Dan Mallory lying.
